Let's start with the concept of Gross Domestic Product, or GDP. Gross Domestic Product is the total volume of goods and services produced in a country over a certain period of time, usually a year. It is one of the key indicators of a country's economic health. There are three main ways to measure GDP – production, expenditure, and income approaches. The first approach – production. It measures the value added at each stage of production. The second approach – expenditure, which considers all expenditures on final goods and services. And finally, the income approach, which sums all incomes received from production, including wages, profits, and taxes. Now let's talk about economic activity cycles. The economy does not always grow evenly. It goes through phases of growth, peak, recession, and depression. These cycles affect the level of unemployment, inflation, and overall living standards. It is important to understand that cycles can be caused by various factors, such as changes in consumer preferences, fluctuations in commodity prices, and changes in government policy. We have a little time left, so let's discuss inflation. Inflation is a sustained increase in the general price level of goods and services. It can be caused by several factors, including supply and demand, as well as production costs. There are various methods of measuring inflation, but the most well-known is the Consumer Price Index, or CPI. It tracks changes in the prices of a fixed set of goods and services consumed by households. When inflation rises, the purchasing power of money decreases. This means you can buy fewer goods and services for the same amount of money. Therefore, it is important that wages and household incomes also rise to offset the impact of inflation.
